Handel’s Messiah is the Rhode Island Philharmonic’s holiday concert this year, performed with the Providence Singers at The VETS, 1 Avenue of the Arts, on Sunday, December 13 at 3 PM; doors open at 2. Christine Noel, the Singers’ artistic director, conducts, with soloists Maya Kherani (soprano), Emily Marvosh (mezzo-soprano), Jonas Budris (tenor) and Andrew Garland (baritone).

Tickets start at $25 and are sold only by the Philharmonic, at tickets.riphil.org or 401-248-7000. The VETS box office can’t sell them, which trips people up because it handles most other shows in the building.

It’s a busy afternoon for music downtown: the Boston Pops play their holiday concert at PPAC, a few blocks away, at 3 and 7 PM the same day, so plan parking with that in mind. The Providence Place garage behind The VETS is usually the easiest choice for events there (details in our parking guide), and the State House lots on Smith Street are open to VETS guests during events. Every holiday concert and show this season, including the Boston Pops, is in our Christmas shows guide.
