WaterFire Providence 2026: Schedule, Times and Parking
When WaterFire lights in 2026, where to watch, where to park and what to know, from WaterFire’s own pages.
WaterFire is free. On lighting nights, more than 80 bonfires burn in braziers on the rivers through downtown Providence, from Waterplace Park to Memorial Park and South Main Street, with music and street performers along the riverwalks. The fires are lit about 15 minutes after sunset, starting in the Waterplace Park basin.

Full, basin and partial lightings
- Full lighting: more than 80 braziers from Waterplace Park to Memorial Park and South Main Street, with onshore programs and vendors. This is the classic WaterFire night.
- Basin lighting: the circle of 22 braziers in the Waterplace Park basin and the 8 leading toward Providence Place. Smaller and shorter, often around the holidays.
- Partial lighting: one stretch of the river, such as the 12 wall-mounted braziers in Memorial Park.
Where to go
WaterFire runs about half a mile along the downtown rivers. For GPS, WaterFire gives its address as 4 N. Main Street, Providence, RI 02903. Start at Waterplace Park for the first lighting, then walk the riverwalk toward Memorial Park as the fires catch. Most of the path is cobblestone, so wear comfortable shoes.
Parking
- Providence Place mall garage (One Providence Place) is at the west end of the lighting and stays open after the mall closes; pay at the exit.
- Street meters: more than 2,300 downtown and in the Jewelry District, College Hill, Wayland Square, Atwells Avenue and Smith Hill, plus 40-plus lots and garages.
- College Hill: park in the East Side neighborhoods and walk down the hill to the river.
- Leaving: the big garages back up around 10 PM. WaterFire suggests staying a little longer instead of sitting in line.
Know before you go
- No folding chairs on the riverwalks; fire marshal rules keep the paths clear.
- Arrive early for a spot along the river. There’s no reserved seating for the general public.
- Keep bags with you. Unattended packages are reported to police.
- VIP Reception Tent: WaterFire sells one-night tickets to a tent with light bites, wine, beer and coffee, and a first-come signup for a boat ride during the lighting. Watching from the riverwalks is free.
- WaterFire is a nonprofit. It runs on donations; volunteers and staff wear credentials.
