Providence lights its Christmas trees over three weekends: Providence Place on Black Friday, Federal Hill the next day, and the city’s big tree at City Hall on December 5. Dates and times are from each organizer’s own page.

Friday, November 27: Providence Place

Lights Up, 5 to 7 PM; the mall’s 70-foot walk-through tree is lit at 5:30, with live music and treats. Photos with Santa run November 13 to December 24, with a sensory-friendly Santa session on Sunday, December 6, 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Details.

Saturday, November 28: Federal Hill

Christmas on the Hill, 2 to 6 PM on Atwells Avenue, with “Providence’s first Christmas tree lighting” at 5 PM, dancers, music and free trolley rides. It’s back on Saturday, December 5, 2 to 6 PM, when landmark buildings and restaurants along Atwells light up together. Details. Eat while you’re there: our Federal Hill guide.

Saturday, December 5: City Hall

The Providence Tree Lighting, 4 to 7 PM at City Hall, 25 Dorrance Street, with family activities, refreshments and music; the city says more programming will be announced. A 35 to 45-foot tree goes on the City Hall steps, and a second tree goes to the Providence Rink across the plaza. It kicks off the PVD Holiday Festival weekend, December 3 to 6, which includes the Downcity Holiday Market.

The Rhode Island State House

The State House tree lighting hadn’t been announced as of October 26. We’ll add it when the governor’s office posts the date.
