The Providence Preservation Society’s fall walk crosses the west side of the city on foot, from Neutaconkanut Hill to the bay. It’s billed as an 11-mile urban hike and runs from 9 AM to about 3 PM on Saturday, November 7, with a rain date of Saturday, November 14. Tickets are $15 through the society’s Eventbrite link.

Walkers meet at 8:45 AM in the parking lot of the Vincent Igliozzi Recreation Center, 675 Plainfield Street. From the hill the route follows the Woonasquatucket River Greenway through Olneyville and Merino and Donigian parks, then the West End past the Wedding Cake House and the Dexter Training Ground, through Roger Williams Park and Columbia Park, past Johnson & Wales’ Harborside campus and the Fields Point windmills, and ends at the Save the Bay Center.

The halfway lunch stop is Urban Greens at 93 Cranston Street, and anyone not up for the full distance can leave there. The organizers call it rigorous: bring water and real walking shoes, and expect restroom stops at cafés along the way. Getting there and back works by bus (RIPTA’s 19 to the start; the 17, 19 and 31 near Urban Greens; the 4 from Fields Point to Kennedy Plaza), and PPS covers a ride back to Plainfield Street for drivers. The rest of the day’s plans are in Saturday, November 7 in Providence.
